Cerise Vineyard

The Cerise Vineyard is located between 800 and 1200 feet above the floor of the Anderson Valley looking down on the little town of Boonville.  The vines are planted on a series of steep slopes facing South, each vineyard farmed organically.

There are a total of 40 acres, scattered on a series of small, clonal blocks; generally no longer than a few acres.  The vines are exposed to both fog and rolling breezes from the Pacific Ocean.  The soils here are thin, hard and quite marginal.  A blend of sandstones and fractured shale are abundant throughout the location.

For Chronicle, we source a mix of clones at this site - Pommard from Block D2,Wadenswil from Block A1, and 115 from Block D3.  Cerise produces wines of excellent structure and backbone.  They age particularly well and typically need a year or two of bottle aging to begin to blossom.  The vineyard consistently epitomizes all we love about Anderson valley – great aromatic complexity with abundant dark fruit tones and substantial yet soft tannins.
